SCHOLARSHIP 2023
General information
Applications for scholarships at Vadstena-Akademien for the summer of 2023 are now open. We offer a number of different scholarships. A scholarship with us will give you a deeper understanding of the practical and artistic aspects of producing an opera. Applicants are expected to have documented relevant experience from studies or work within the field. The kinds of experience we expect are listed below along with information on how to apply. You can write your application in Swedish or English.

In the summer of 2023 we are producing a new Swedish Opera " Andefabriken" by Daniel Nelson, composer, Tuvalisa Rangström and Magnus Lindman, libretto at Vadstena Castle (built in 1545).

Wig and make-up assistants
5 June – 15 Aug (Vadstena Castle)
Description
As a wig and make-up assistant you will practice closely with your mentor, our wig and make-up designer, to produce the wigs and make-up for ”Andefabriken”. During the performances, you will be responsible for overall maintenance of wigs as well as assisting the performers.

Stage assistants
5 June-21 July (Vadstena Castle)
5 June – 15 August (Vadstena Castle)
Description
As a stage assistant practice closely with your mentor you will produce the set, props and other things needed and perform other tasks necessary to build the set for "Andefabriken". Stage assistants also have responsibilities during performances, and are part of safety routines and overall maintenance under the guidance of the stage manager.

Lighting assistant

Description
As a lighting assistant, you will practice closely with your mentor, the lighting designer, to produce the lighting for "Andefabriken". During the performances, you are also expected to operate the stage lights.

Orchestra at Vadstena Castle (Andefabriken)
5 July - 10 August
Description
Modern instruments. As a member of the orchestra, you will play your instrument with your mentors, the conductor and the concertmaster, for "Andefabriken". You will also play in one additional concert given in Vadstena. Further information concerning the concert will be provided later. We are looking for the following instrumentalists:
Percussion

Cello

Project assistants/foyer
27 June - 15 Aug
Description
As a project assistant, you play an important role in the productions and performances and for the audience. You interact with the entire production team, and your closest mentor will be the sales and foyer manager. You will be situated in the office with just over 10 people from the marketing and planning team. Your tasks will vary from day to day and include marketing activities; setting up and maintaining the foyer; sales, and customer service before, during and after performances; and overall support. Applicants should have an interest in service and the performing arts and be responsible individuals. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.

Production planning assistant
5 June - 15 Aug
Description
As a production planning assistant, you will assist the producer with the planning of opera productions and concerts at Vadstena Castle as well as handling your own parts of the projects. You will participate in and follow the work during the rehearsals and the performance period. You will be situated in the office with just over 10 people from the marketing and planning team. You will also be required to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed. You have an interest in production planning and the Producer’s role and managing projects. You should either have studied in the field or have relevant experience from similar positions, not be afraid to take initiatives, and be interested in taking responsibility in a creative and dynamic environment. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.

Marketing assistant

Description
As a marketing assistant, you will assist the Head of Marketing and Communications and the Ticket and foyer Manager with communications about opera productions and concerts at Vadstena Castle and at the Vadstena Old Theatre, as well as managing your own parts of the projects. You will be situated in the office with just over 10 people from the marketing, production and planning team. Furthermore, you will be required to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed. You have an interest in marketing, in the performing arts, and have knowledge about the marketing role. You should either have studied in the field or have relevant experience from similar positions, not be afraid to take initiatives, and be interested in taking responsibility in a creative and dynamic environment. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.

Costume assistants

Description
As a costume assistant in 2023
, you will produce the costumes for "Andefabriken" under the guidance of our head of costume. One of the costume assistants will stay throughout the performance period to tend to the maintenance of the costumes.
