Call for scores
for solo cello
Vadstena-Akademien, in collaboration with the cellist Elide Sulsenti is seeking for music works to be included in a concert for solo cello which will be held in Vadstena, Sweden on the 3rd August 2024.
The Call aims to promote the creation of a concert dedicated to solo cello, composed of selected pieces through a "Call for Score" addressed to composers worldwide. The goal is to create a diverse and captivating program lasting approximately one hour. All the works should be in world première or, at least, Swedish première.
The submission deadline is set on the 1st June, and the selected works will be announced on the 30th June.
About
Vadstena-Akademien is a summer opera-house and academy in Sweden. As opera-house, being focused on contemporary and baroque style, from the opening in 1964 has commissioned and staged 38 new operas and nearly 50 undeservedly lost operas dug out of antique manuscripts. As academy, provides an established road to professional life for young singers, musicians and for practioners of other crafts involved in the world of opera such as lighting, wardrobe and stagecraft.
Elide Sulsenti is an Italian cellist based in Switzerland. Active in the field of contemporary music and interdisciplinary projects, she recently received the Premio Valentino Bucchi 2024 in Rome and the Fritz Gerber Award 2023, assigned by Heinz Holliger. Over the years, she has performed numerous premières and worked with composers of various nationalities, playing in festivals like Lucerne Festival and Connect Festival in Malmö. The call is open to composers of any nationality, with no restrictions whatsoever.

The score(s) must be send to: apply@vadstena-akademien.org

Each composer may submit more than one composition, provided that the relevant fees are paid. See next paragraph for the specifications.

Submissions are due by 24:00 (CET) of the 1st of June, 2024, with the winners announced by the 30st of June, 2024.

Any duration is accepted but we strongly recommend submissions around max 12/15 minutes.

The call is about pieces for Solo Cello. No electronics is provided by the venue, but the piece(s) could be performative, and it’s admitted the use of some common electronic support or device (i.e. Phones, little speakers) or objects. For questions ask Elide: elide@elide.it

The selected composers will receive a performance of their piece, and a professional audio-video recording.

By submitting, the author accepts to provide the performance materials at no further cost for the organization.
How to submit
To be eligible to part take in the call for scores, you need to pay a fee of 10€ for the consultation of the material by the performer and the preparation of the concert. For payment instructions, please contact elide@elide.it.
