General information
Applications for scholarships at Vadstena-Akademien for the summer of 2024 are now open.
We offer a variety of scholarships. A scholarship will give you a deeper understanding of the practical and artistic aspects of producing, studying and rehearsing concerts and opera. Applicants are expected to have documented relevant experience from studies or work within the field. For information on how to apply, see below.

In the summer of 2024 we are producing a new Swedish Opera ”Fotografen”
by Anna Einarsson, composer, Magnus Florin, libretto, at Vadstena Old Theatre (built in 1825)
as well as a semi-staged concert production of “Gluntarne” by Gunnar Wennerberg. We are also arranging a Baroque Academy with period instruments focusing on early Italian, French and German Baroque music. Additional pop up concerts will be arranged.
Stage director's assistants
17 June – 16 Aug (Vadstena Old Theatre)
Description
As a stage director’s assistant for ”Fotografen” you practice closely with your mentor, the stage director. You will assist the stage director in day-to-day tasks, such as planning the schedule, take notes during rehearsals, and coordinate in the production. In addition you will manage text projections during the performances. In short, you will be the right hand of the stage director.
The scholarship offers an interesting mixture of practical and artistic aspects, allowing you to get a deep understanding of a stage director’s work.

Wig and make-up assistants
10 June – 16 Aug (Vadstena Old Theatre)
Description
As a wig and make-up assistant you will practice closely with your mentor, the wig and make-up designer, to produce the wigs and make-up for ”Fotografen” and the semi staged concert production ”Gluntarne”. During the performances, you will tend to the maintenance of wigs as well as assisting the performers as part of the back stage crew.

Stage assistants
10 June – 26 July (Vadstena Old Theatre)
10 June – 16 August (Vadstena Old Theatre)
Description
As a stage assistant you will practice closely with your mentors (stage manager and set designer) to manage the set, props and other things needed and perform other tasks necessary to complete the set for ”Fotografen”, semi-staged concert production ”Gluntarne” as well as concerts productions of the Baroque Academy. Stage assistants also have responsibilities during performances (if participating for the longer period 10 June-16 Aug), and are part of safety routines and overall maintenance under the guidance of the stage manager.

Lighting assistant
10 June – 16 Aug (Vadstena Old Theatre)
Description
As a lighting assistant, you will practice closely with your mentor, the lighting designer, to produce the lighting for ”Fotografen”, semi staged concert production ”Gluntarne” and concert productions of the Baroque Academy. During the performances, you are also expected to operate the stage lights.

Costume assistants
10 June – 26 July (Vadstena Old Theatre)

Description
As a costume assistant in 2024, you will make the costumes for ”Fotografen”
and the semi staged concert production ”Gluntarne” under the guidance of our head of costume.
If participating in the longer period (10 June-16 Aug) you will stay throughout the performance
period to tend to the maintenance of the costumes as well as assisting the performers as part
of the back stage crew.

Production planning assistant
10 June – 16 Aug
Description
As a production planning assistant, you will assist the producer with the planning of opera productions and concerts (”Fotografen”, semi-staged concert production ”Gluntarne”, Baroque Academy) at Vadstena Old Theatre, Vadstena Castle and other locations in Vadstena and surroundings as well as handling your own parts of the projects. You will participate in and follow the work during the rehearsals and the performance period. You will be part of the office staff with just over 10 people from the marketing and planning team. You will also be required to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed. You have an interest in production planning and project management. You should either have studied in the field or have relevant experience from similar positions. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.

Marketing assistant
10 June – 16 Aug
Description
As a marketing assistant, you will assist the Head of Marketing and Communications and the Ticket and Foyer Manager with communications about opera productions and concert productions (”Fotografen”, semi-staged concert production ”Gluntarne”, Baroque Academy) at Vadstena Castle, Vadstena Old Theatre and other locations in Vadstena and surroundings as well as managing your own parts of the projects. You will be part of the office staff with just over 10 people from the marketing, production and planning team. Furthermore, you will be required to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed. You have an interest in marketing, in the performing arts, and have knowledge about the marketing role. You should either have studied in the field or have relevant experience from similar positions. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.

Project assistants/foyer
25 June – 16 Aug
Description
As a project assistant, you play an important role in the productions and performances
(”Fotografen”, semi-staged concert production ”Gluntarne”, Baroque Academy) and for the audience. You interact with the entire production team, and your closest mentor will be the sales and foyer manager. You will be a member of the office staff with just over 10 people from the marketing and planning team. Your tasks will vary from day to day including marketing activities; setting up and maintaining the foyer; sales, and customer service before, during and after performances; and overall support. Applicants should have an interest in service and the performing arts and be responsible individuals. Applicants with a driving license are preferred.
